Great Comedy Teams

I don’t know how some of these people found each other and how they managed to make me laugh so hard. And since most of these teams made movies in the 1930s and 1940s, the humor is pretty clean. You will not have to put your hands over the ears of your children, whom you should bring if you have any. I’ll be featuring Burns and Allen, Laurel and Hardy, the Ritz Brothers, Abbott and Costello, the Marx Brothers, and a few surprises. Maybe it’s all in the timing. Maybe not. We shall see.
“Scenes Through the Cinema Lens” is a film retrospective focusing on the performing arts curated by Krin Gabbard, professor of Jazz Studies at Columbia University. He is also the author of Better Git It in Your Soul: An Interpretive Biography of Charles Mingus and Hotter than That: The Trumpet, Jazz, and American Culture.
