As we celebrate the one hundredth anniversary of Orson Welles’ birth, it’s time to get past the stories of his failures to survive in Hollywood and the supposedly ego-maniacal behavior that made it almost impossible for him to get his films made. In fact, Welles made brilliant films in spite of the resistance he encountered at multiple levels. We will look at scenes from Citizen Kane, The Magnificent Ambersons, The Lady from Shanghai, Too Much Johnson, Chimes at Midnight, F Is for Fake, and other films that reveal his complete mastery of the art of film making.
