The Flying Carpet Theatre presents Andrew Nemr: Rising to the Tap
by Adam Koplan and Andrew Nemr
Music by Or Matias
Direction by Adam Koplan
Performed and choreographed by Andrew Nemr
Two performances: Friday & Saturday, December 15 & 16, at 7:30PM
In Rising to the Tap, a dance concert mixed with autobiographical solo storytelling, tap virtuoso Andrew Nemr candidly reveals a unique American journey. With musically explosive footwork, Nemr shares episodes from his immigrant history — his family’s departure from Lebanon in 1976, adapting to life in New Jersey, his eventual mentorship under legends Savion Glover and Gregory Hines — and his struggles with loneliness, bullying, and cultural identity. Described as “A masterly tapper” by The New York Times, Andrew Nemr is considered one of the most diverse tap dance artists today.
Andrew Nemr’s residency at BMCC Tribeca PAC is part of the CUNY Dance Initiative. Andrew Nemr’s residency at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center is part of the CUNY Dance Initiative, which receives major support from the Mertz Gilmore Foundation, the Howard Gilman Foundation, and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. Additional support is provided by the Jerome Robbins Foundation, the Fan Fox and Leslie R. Samuels Foundation, and the Harkness Foundation for Dance. CDI is spearheaded and administered by the Kupferberg Center for the Arts at Queens College. www.cuny.edu/danceinitiative
