Writers-in-Performance Workshop & Presentation 2025 @ Tribeca Performing Arts Center

The Writers in Performance workshop is designed to give writers the opportunity to explore performing their written pieces. Whether they are playwrights, poets, monologists, writers of prose, or a spoken word artist, this workshop gives the writers an opportunity to create a performance piece out of their writings.   Workshop participants are chosen on the strength of their writing plus either performance ability, or willingness to explore that aspect of creativity. The workshop mixes professionals with students. Mario Giacalone – Director – Professional actor, director and teacher, Mario Giacalone, is the Facilitator and Director of the Writers in Performance program. Giacalone, the Program Director at BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center, has taught acting in New York City for over ten years and has directed both stage and film. The performances are December 5th and 6th.

Mark your calendars: Auditions are September 15, 16 from 6:30PM to 8PM, by appointment only (details TBA – there will be an email/phone number to make an appointment by the end of August). The workshop is once a week, in the evenings, usually on Mondays (but not always), as well as December 1st through 6th.

This is a musical adaptation of The Jungle Book, adapted by Michael McGill, music and lyrics by Michael McGill. Ever been abandoned in the jungle, adopted by wolves, taught by a bear, befriended by a panther and chased by a tiger? In the Missoula Children’s Theatre musical adaptation of The Jungle Book, Mowgli the man-cub has all these adventures and more. Join him as he escapes from the Bander-log, outwits a tiger, enlists the help of a rock-python, explores what it means to be human and learns a lesson from the brave mongoose Rikki-Tikki-Tavi. Original music and rollicking humor give new life to the classic tale by Rudyard Kipling.

Please note: This is a week-long theater acting camp for kids ages 5 to 18 who are interested in performing. The rehearsal for the presentation of the musical ‘The Jungle Book’ is during spring break week, Apr. 6 to 11, 2026.
